Get ready for an unforgettable adventure through one of the world’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, timed perfectly to capture a rare total solar eclipse over Iceland. This workshop is designed to create a lifetime of memories and leave you with incredible images that tell the story of this extraordinary journey.

From the moment you arrive in Iceland, every detail of this trip is tailored for maximum photographic potential. With two seasoned guides, you'll chase the best light across the Land of Fire and Ice, from the iconic Kirkjufell mountain in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to the mesmerizing Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on Iceland’s stunning south coast. Each day has been crafted to give you access to the best sunrise and sunset locations, making the most of Iceland’s late-summer light.

The highlight of our journey will be the total solar eclipse—a rare and breathtaking phenomenon, especially in the northern skies. We’ll be in the perfect position to capture this celestial event, ensuring you come away with truly unique and rare images.

Beyond the eclipse, this workshop promises a photographic feast. From black sand beaches and towering waterfalls to dramatic mountains and glacial lagoons, every stop is an opportunity to capture Iceland’s breathtaking diversity. Prepare to leave with memory cards filled with unforgettable images and memories from one of the most photogenic locations on Earth. Join us for the photography adventure of a lifetime!

A unique opportunity

Group size is limited to 6 students with two instructors to ensure that everyone receives our attention.

This workshop will require mild hiking sometimes through icy terrain.

During our journey in the field you will learn:
-How to distill the scene before you to create an evocative image.
-Find compelling compositions that convey a strong visual story.
-How to shoot the Solar Ecplise.
-Focus stacking, focal length blend, and perspective blend.
-Mastering the technical details of image capture including bracketing and exposure blend.
-Choice of focal length and creative ways to use lens distortion.
-Using filters.

During the dedicated post processing sessions you will learn:
-Using color to better tell a story.
-Blend multiple exposures in photoshop.
-Final image rendition for panoramas using Photoshop.
-Learning how to use luminosity masks for tonal adjustments.
-Specific steps that can be taken in post processing to strengthen the visual pathway through your image.

About the itinerary

ITINERARY

Day 1: Pick up and Snaefellsnes Peninsula

  • Pick up:
    We pick you and the the rest of the group up at Keflavik International Airport or at your hotel in Reykjavik.

  • Sunset: Kirkjufell & Kirkjufellsfoss
    One of Iceland’s most iconic mountains, especially with the cascading waterfall in the foreground. Perfect for sunrise photography when the soft light enhances the dramatic landscape.

Day 2: Snaefellsnes Peninsula

  • Sunrise: Kirkjufell & Kirkjufellsfoss
    One more attempt to shoot this iconic location in favorable light.

  • Day Activities: Arnarstapi to Hellnar Coastal Walk and Black Church visit
    A scenic coastal walk with stunning cliffs, lava formations, and dramatic sea views. There are plenty of opportunities to photograph the rugged Icelandic coast.

  • Solar Eclipse:
    This afternoon we will make sure we are in the best possible location for this special celestial event.

  • Sunset: Londrangar Cliffs
    These towering rock formations make a striking subject for sunset. You can capture the sun setting behind the cliffs with the dramatic ocean as the backdrop.

ITINERARY

Day 3: Towards the East (Húsafell and the Golden Circle)

  • Sunrise: Hraunfossar and Barnafoss Waterfalls
    These stunning waterfalls are known for their unusual formations. At sunrise, the colors and light are breathtaking.

  • Sunset: Gullfoss Waterfall
    One of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, Gullfoss is incredible at sunset as the golden light creates rainbows over the cascading water.

Day 4: Moving East (Hvolsvöllur and Vik)

  • Sunrise: Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
    One of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, you can walk behind it, offering unique angles for sunrise shots. The early light shining through the waterfall creates magical compositions.

  • Day Activities: Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss & Kvernufoss Waterfall
    After capturing Seljalandsfoss, head to Gljúfrabúi to capture this beauty of a hidden waterfall. Then we to Skógafoss and Kvernufoss two mighty and impressive waterfalls.

  • Sunset: Dyrhólaey Arch & Reynisfjara Beach
    The dramatic rock arch of Dyrhólaey is ideal for sunset. Close by is Reynisfjara Beach, famous for its basalt columns and sea stacks, a great alternative depending on lighting conditions.

Day 6: East Iceland (Höfn to Stokksnes)

  • Sunrise: Diamond Beach
    Directly across from Jökulsárlón is Diamond Beach, where the icebergs wash ashore. At sunrise, the ice crystals scattered on the black sand create stunning reflections in the morning light.

  • Day Activities: Hofn & Vestrahorn Area
    Spend the day traveling further east and exploring the landscape around Höfn. You can stop in the town of Höfn for some local culture and rest. Then, prepare for sunset at one of Iceland's most iconic locations.

  • Sunset: Vestrahorn Mountain (Stokksnes)
    Vestrahorn is an incredible location for landscape photographers. The mountain, reflected in the black sand beach at sunset, is otherworldly. Capture the fading light playing on the peaks and across the shoreline.

Day 7: Vestrahorn and Final Day

  • Sunrise: Vestrahorn (Second Visit)
    If conditions are right, it's worth revisiting Vestrahorn for sunrise. The different lighting and atmosphere will provide an entirely new set of photographic possibilities.

  • Return towards to airport

    After capturing the majestic Vestrahorn mountains, we make our way back towards the airport to say our goodbyes.

    Without a doubt, your memory card(s) will be packed with amazing scenes and memories at this point!

What is included and not?

Included in this workshop is the transportation from and back to the airport, as well as the transportation between locations.

The guiding and tutoring both infield as well as in the class room.

Due to this being a unique event we expect accommodations to be limited. Single room occupancy will be very limited. So make sure to book this early.

Meals are not included, but we will make sure you will be able to buy groceries or we will eat out as a group.
We do not lend out any gear (camera or clothing), so you need to bring this yourself.
You need your personal travel and health insurances in order.
You need to get yourself to Keflavik airport (KEF) and any hotel nights or similar related to that you need to cover yourself.
Any tips, souvenirs or snacks is on you.

What do I bring with me?

Since we will spend a lot of time outside it is important that you bring appropriate clothing. It is late summer, but strong winds and rain is still conditions we might face. 3 layers usually does the trick, but you might get away with 2 layers depending on the conditions.
When we are on the go we usually go with merino wool as the inner layer and goretex pants and jacket, gloves and a cap to keep our ears warm.
Temperatures will likely be between 10 and 15 °C (50 to 59 °F)

As for camera gear, we recommend you being covered from 14mm to 400mm (or longer for the solar eclipse).
You will need a solar filter for your lens. It is also recommended to have a pair of eclipse glasses.
Given the ratio of instructors to clients, you can rest assured there is plenty of time for individual instruction and advice both in the field and in post processing. Your images and learning are our top priority.
Bring a sturdy tripod! We cannot stress this enough.

You are welcome to bring your drone. You are responsible to follow the national laws related to flying.

Adapters, converters, chargers etc. You are likely using a different power connector where you come from.

Do bring your laptop with the latest Lightroom and Photoshop installed if you wanna follow along when we do class room sessions.

About Sapna Reddy

Sapna is a landscape photographer based in Northern California. She is currently pursuing dual careers as a photographer and a physician. As a radiologist she analyzes images in an attempt to establish diagnosis to achieve cure. As a photographer she aspires to generate images that are both a creative expression for the artist as well as a therapeutic visual for the viewer.
Her work has been awarded in competitions run by National Geographic, USA landscape photographer of the year, Lonely Planet, Popular Photography and Outdoor Photographer amongst others.

She has been published internationally and featured on Adobe, Sony, Lonely Planet and Flickr platforms. In addition to incorporation into multiple medical centers to create an ambiance of healing, her images have been used for video conferencing needs by corporations including Google,Gap, Hitachi, Yahoo etc.

Sapna conducts workshops both within US as well as internationally. These workshops are focused on identifying and fine tuning individual creative style and creating meaningful images.

She is a brand ambassador for Sony Alpha, Gura Gear and NiSi. She is an educator for Adobe and a creative collaborator for B&H, Flickr and BayPhoto Lab.

Select images are sold in art galleries in over 80 countries worldwide. A significant portion of the proceeds from the sale of the images is directed to charity.

Deposit

A deposit of $1500 is mandatory to reserve your seat in this workshop.

Single Room

The single room option is very limited and costs $700 extra.

Final Payment

The final payments comes on top of the deposit. The final payment is $4300.
